Choosing the right frame for your eyeglasses or sunglasses is not just a matter of style , but also of comfort and fit . Every face has different characteristics and finding the perfect size is essential for a harmonious look and an optimal fit.

But how do you understand what the right size is?

Eyeglass Sizes: What Do the Numbers on the Temples Mean?

If you already have a pair of glasses that fit you well, you can find their size information by reading the numbers on the inside of the temples.

Usually, you will find three numbers separated by spaces or dashes, for example: 52 - 18 - 140

These numbers indicate:

Lens Width (Size) – 52mm
It is the horizontal dimension of the lens. A larger size provides a wider field of view.

Bridge width – 18 mm
It is the distance between the two lenses, the part that rests on the nose. It ensures that the glasses do not slip.

Length of the temples – 140 mm
It is the length of the temples, the part that goes above the ears. They must guarantee stability

Tip: If your current glasses fit you well, choose a frame with very similar measurements!

The Credit Card Method to Find Your Ideal Width

If you don't have a pair of reference glasses, you can use a simple trick: a credit card!

The width of a credit card is about 85 mm, which corresponds to the average measurement of the face. Place the short edge of the card between your eyes, in front of the mirror, and look where it ends:

If the paper covers exactly one eye and reaches the edge of the other nose → You are a medium size and should look for frames between 50-54mm in lens width.

If the card is wider than your face → You have a small face, opt for narrower frames, 48-50 mm.

If the card is narrower than your face → You have a large face, look for wider frames, 55mm or more.

This trick is useful to get a general idea, but the final fit will also depend on the shape of the face and personal comfort.

Which shape of glasses should you choose based on your face?

Now that you know your size, you need to choose the frame shape that best suits your body type. Here are some tips:

Oval Face

Almost any frame will look good on you!
🔸 Ideal: square, round, aviator, cat-eye models.
